Elder and Sister Nagano arrive in Tokyo on April 23, 2026.© 2026 by Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved.Elder Takuji Nagano and Sister Kuniko Nagano began service as a senior missionary couple in the Asia North Area Office in Tokyo on April 23, 2026.
Elder Nagano serves as an In‑Field Representative for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Missionary Department. In this role, he supports leaders in 25 missions across the Asia and Asia North Areas to help safeguard the spiritual and physical well-being of missionaries. In situations where missionaries need to return home due to illness or injury, or in other emergency situations, mission leaders contact the In-Field Representative for guidance.
Sister Nagano supports Elder Nagano so that he can fulfill his responsibilities. In addition, she has received a calling to work with leaders in planning and carrying out For the Strength of Youth (FSY) activities in Japan.
Elder Nagano was born in Mie Prefecture, Japan, and joined the Church in 1975 at age 15. Sister Nagano was born in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, and joined the Church in 1980 at age 19.
Elder and Sister Nagano have served in various callings in the Church. Both served as young missionaries from 1982 to 1983—Elder Nagano in the Japan Nagoya Mission and Sister Nagano in the Japan Osaka Mission.
From 2015 to 2018, they served together as mission leaders in the Japan Tokyo Mission, and from 2018 to 2022, they served at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, as branch president and Relief Society president. From 2023 to 2025, they served as a senior missionary couple providing member and leader support in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, Japan.
Sister Nagano also worked as a Japanese language instructor at the Provo Missionary Training Center from June 2025 to March 2026.
Elder and Sister Nagano are the parents of three sons and one daughter and have three grandchildren. A fourth grandchild is expected in August.
The couple looks forward to supporting mission leaders and strengthening efforts to share the teachings of Jesus Christ across the region as they serve in this new assignment.
