Giving Machine Initiative to Include both Tokyo and Osaka in 2026

The Asia North Area Presidency is pleased to announce that the Giving Machine Initiative has been approved for Tokyo and Osaka for the 2026 Christmas season.

The initiative was held in Japan for the first time in 2025. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of hundreds of volunteers, thousands of people in Tokyo were able to have meaningful experiences and feel the joy of giving. Osaka has been added as a host city for 2026.

The Giving Machine Initiative, held in many parts of the world as part of the “Light the World” effort, is a participatory charitable program that allows individuals to donate goods and services—such as food, medical care, and educational support—through a vending machine-like digital kiosk. By selecting items to give, participants can provide direct, meaningful assistance to those in need.

Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has said:

“The annual Light the World Giving Machines are a living miracle. They are a beautiful and inspiring way to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and to follow His example of love and service.”

Members of the Japan Giving Machine Initiative organizing committee are already devoting significant time and effort to prepare for the 2026 events in both Tokyo and Osaka.

Individuals, families and organizations may participate in the Giving Machine Initiative in the following ways:

• Visit the location and make a donation
• Serve as a volunteer, both on-site and through social media
• Share information about the initiative with family, friends, and co-workers.
