The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has launched an English Newsroom site covering Japan, Korea and Mongolia. Titled "East Asia English Newsroom," this new site adds to the local language Newsrooms already available in the Church's Asia North Area:
Of the site, Elder J. Kimo Esplin, Asia North Area President, said, “In addition to the local language Newsroom sites, we are delighted to provide official news of the Church in English covering the Asia North Area.” He added, “We recognize we have a lot of English-speaking members of the Church here as well as multi-language speakers who will be strengthened in their faith and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and be more knowledgeable through information provided by the Church.”
Recent news on the site includes the launch of the Giving Machine kiosks held in Tokyo, Japan; an article about Christmas being a season of service as volunteers give of their time to help others in Seoul, Korea; and the inspiring story of a steeplechase runner who competed at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Today, Newsroom comprises a global Church Newsroom in English, created in early 2000, as well as more than 60 other sites across the world. The English headquarters site Newsroom publishes news of interest to journalists, academics, opinion leaders, demographers, and the general public (including a significant Latter-day Saint audience). The Church Communications Department at Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, administers the channel on behalf of the First Presidency of the Church.
The Church’s Newsrooms, which publish content in more than two dozen languages, generate and share content among themselves, thereby expanding the reach of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
