On July 3, 2026, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated funds to support an emotional support program for children at the Gyeonggi Northern Temporary Child Protection Center. The donation was intended to help children who have experienced abuse and violence recover emotionally. Representing the Church at the donation ceremony were President Il-Gwang Choi of the Seoul East Stake and Hyun Seog Cho, Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager. During the event, a memorandum of understanding was signed, the donation was presented, and the representatives received an overview of the emotional support program planned by the center.
Director Sang-Yeob Lee of the Gyeonggi Northern Temporary Child Protection Center explained that most children admitted to the facility have experienced abuse or violence from their guardians and consequently struggle with fear of adults and emotional insecurity. He noted that the emotional support program, made possible through the Church’s donation, has been highly effective in helping children reduce their anxiety and fear while regaining emotional stability. He also expressed sincere gratitude to the Church for its continued support and concern, following its contribution in the previous year and again in 2026.
President Il-Gwang Choi of the Seoul East Stake stated, “We are grateful for the opportunity to support an important organization that cares for children who have suffered abuse at the hands of their guardians under very difficult circumstances.” He added, “We will continue to explore ways that members of the Church in the local community can work together to provide meaningful support for these children and for the Gyeonggi Northern Temporary Child Protection Center.”

He also encouraged the director to ensure that all activities are carried out safely and effectively throughout the program
The Gyeonggi Northern Temporary Child Protection Center is a specialized institution that provides protective services to children who have experienced abuse or violence in the northern region of Gyeonggi Province. During their stay of approximately three to six months, the center offers a safe living environment while also providing a variety of programs designed to promote physical recovery, emotional stability, and psychological healing.
This donation is part of ongoing efforts to help child victims of violence regain a healthy sense of self and prepare for a more stable future. It also serves as a meaningful example of how local communities and faith-based organizations can work together to improve the welfare and well-being of vulnerable children.
