On July 4, 2026, the United States will celebrate 250 years of independence. To honor this historic milestone and celebrate the enduring friendship between the people of Mongolia and the United States, the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar and the American Chamber of Commerce in Mongolia (AmCham Mongolia) hosted the “America Days” celebration on June 6 and 7 at Sukhbaatar Square in the heart of Ulaanbaatar. Participants enjoyed American food, connected with American businesses, explored educational opportunities, and learned more about American culture and traditions.
As part of the celebration, a choir from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was invited to perform for Saturday’s program. Preparations for the event began in early May as music was selected, distributed, and rehearsed. Individual ward choirs first practiced separately before coming together prior to the performance for a combined rehearsal. Sister Unurjargal, the choir director, worked tirelessly to organize the music and help singers learn their parts. Additional rehearsals were held during the week leading up to the event, and choir members gathered early on the morning of the performance for final preparations. Church members were honored to participate in the celebration and performed “America the Beautiful” along with a well-known Mongolian song titled “Eternal Mongolia”.

In a message shared on its Facebook page, the U.S. Embassy in Mongolia reflected on the significance of the occasion: “As we mark this milestone abroad, it is an opportunity not only to celebrate our democratic values and founding ideals but also to reflect on the enduring partnerships we’ve built around the world. Here at the U.S. Embassy in Mongolia, we honor the contributions of Americans past and present, and we invite our local friends and partners to join us in looking toward a shared future of cooperation, innovation, and mutual respect.”
Khongorzul, a choir member, expressed her excitement for the event, “It was such a privilege to participate in the event. It brought back fond memories of when I sang in the church choir 15 years ago.”
