BYUtv’s documentary series “artFUL” introduces artists from around the world and explores how they express themes related to faith through their work. Now in its sixth season, the series features ceramic artist Taiichi Aoba as its first Japanese artist.

© 2024 by Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved.This episode was filmed at Aoba’s studio in Saijō City, Ehime Prefecture, on the island of Shikoku. The production team focused on his creative approach and engagement with the natural environment of the region.
The program introduces Aoba’s life and artistic process in detail—from gathering local clay, to shaping pieces that incorporate religious symbolism, to firing them in a traditional wood‑fired kiln.
Aoba is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and many of his pieces incorporate imagery inspired by the “Tree of Life” described in the Book of Mormon.
